If you can't repost on TikTok, the most common reason is an out-of-date app or a temporary glitch. TikTok's troubleshooting steps for sharing problems are to switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data, clear the app video cache, restart the app and your phone, and update to the latest version. Repost lives in the Share menu in the TikTok app, or you can press and hold on a video. If it still does not show, report it to TikTok. In the meantime you can share by link or message, or use Duet or Stitch where the creator allows it.

How the Repost feature works

Repost lets you pass on a post you find interesting to your friends and community. TikTok's help centre says reposted content shows up in their For You feed like any other post, but labelled as a repost, with your profile photo and nickname on it.

  • Where it appears: you can find your reposts on your profile under the Repost tab, separate from the videos you post yourself.
  • Who sees it: if your account is public, others can see your reposts, your repost text and replies. If your account is private, only your followers can see them.
  • Replies: people who see your repost can reply to it. TikTok notes that your comment privacy settings do not apply to repost replies.
  • No confirmation step: TikTok says that once you tap Repost, the post is reposted. You can remove it afterwards.

How to repost on TikTok

TikTok's help centre lists three ways to repost in the app:

  1. From the Share menu. Open the post, tap the Share button on the side, then tap Repost.
  2. By pressing and holding. Press and hold on the video, then tap Repost in the menu that opens.
  3. From a friend's repost. If a friend already reposted it, tap their profile photo at the bottom of the post, then tap Repost.

How to undo a repost on TikTok

To remove a repost, open the post and tap Share, then Delete repost. You can also press and hold and tap Remove repost, or tap your profile photo at the bottom of the post and tap Remove. Removing a repost also deletes every reply to it.

Can you see who viewed your repost on TikTok?

Not from the repost itself. TikTok's help article on Repost explains who can see your reposts and where they appear, but it does not describe a list of people who viewed a repost. It also does not say the original creator is told who reposted their video. What you can control is the audience: a public account's reposts can be seen by others, while a private account's reposts are only shown to your followers. For the view history features TikTok and Instagram do offer, see can you see who viewed your TikTok or Instagram.

Why the Repost button may be missing

TikTok does not publish a list of reasons the button can be missing. These are the causes its help pages and past announcements point to, starting with the one TikTok's own troubleshooting covers.

Likely causes and what to try first.

1. Your app is out of date or glitching

This is the cause TikTok itself points to. Its troubleshooting steps for sharing problems are the same every time: switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data, clear the app video cache, restart the app and your device, and make sure you are running the latest version of TikTok. Since Repost sits inside the Share menu, these steps cover it too.

2. The feature has not reached your account

TikTok sometimes tests features with some users before everyone gets them. Repost began that way: in January 2022 Engadget reported that TikTok was testing a repost button that was not yet available to everyone, and TikTok said it was "experimenting with a new way for people to share TikTok videos they enjoy". Repost now has its own help centre article, but if friends have the button and you do not, update the app first. If that does not help, report it to TikTok (see below).

3. Age limits on your account

TikTok says that some features may not be available until you turn 16 or 18, and that default settings depend on your age and local laws. Its help pages do not say whether Repost itself is age-limited, so treat this as a possible cause rather than a rule. If your account is a teen account or managed through Family Pairing, some sharing options can work differently.

Still can't repost? Report it

  1. Run the fixes first. Update the app, clear the video cache, switch networks and restart your phone.
  2. Open the help article in the app. In the app's help centre, open the I can't share videos article and tap Need more help? at the bottom.
  3. Send details. Follow the steps to submit a ticket. TikTok asks you to include details and screenshots.

Alternatives to the Repost button

If Repost is not working, you still have other ways to pass a video on.

  • Share by message or link: tap Share and pick a friend, or copy the link and send it on another app. TikTok says a post sent to a friend on another platform is also sent to them on TikTok if they tap the link and allow direct messages.
  • Add it to your Story: depending on the creator's privacy settings, you may be able to add their post to your Story. TikTok says posts from accounts aged 13 to 15, or from private accounts aged 16 to 17, cannot be added to Stories.
  • Duet: post your video side by side with theirs. This only works if the creator has a public account and allows Duets.
  • Stitch: use a short clip of their video at the start of your own. The same reuse settings apply.
  • Save the video: the Save video option only appears when the creator has turned on downloads.

Duet and Stitch depend on the creator's privacy settings. TikTok's help centre says a creator must have a public account for others to Duet or Stitch their videos, and nobody can Duet or Stitch videos from an account aged 13 to 15. For public accounts aged 16 to 17, the default is Friends (followers you follow back). Creators can also turn off Allow reuse of content when they post a video. So if Duet or Stitch is greyed out, it is usually the creator's setting, not a fault on your side.

Does reposting help your own growth?

Reposts put other people's videos in front of your friends and community, so the original creator is the one getting the extra reach. To grow your own account, you need original posts that people enjoy watching. Our guides on how to go viral on TikTok and how to get on the For You page cover that in more detail.

Some creators also use TikTok views from Folzora to give a new video a little early social proof. Be aware that TikTok's Community Guidelines do not allow services that artificially boost engagement, and TikTok says it removes inflated metrics it detects. Bought views also do not replace a strong hook or content people want to share.

Frequently asked questions

Why don't I have the repost button on TikTok?

Usually because the app is out of date or glitching. Update TikTok, clear the video cache, switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data, and restart your phone. If it still does not appear, report it by tapping Need more help? at the bottom of TikTok's sharing help article in the app.

Where is the repost button on TikTok?

Open the post and tap the Share button, then tap Repost. You can also press and hold on the video and tap Repost, or tap a friend's profile photo at the bottom of a post they reposted.

Where do my reposts show up on TikTok?

They are on your profile under the Repost tab and can appear in your friends' and community's For You feeds with a repost label. If your account is private, only your followers can see them.

How do I undo a repost on TikTok?

Open the post, tap Share, then Delete repost. You can also press and hold on the video and tap Remove repost. Any replies to the repost are deleted too.

Can you see who viewed your repost on TikTok?

TikTok's Repost help article does not describe a way to see who viewed a repost. It explains who can see it instead: other people can see it if your account is public, or only your followers if it is private.

Why can't I Duet or Stitch a TikTok video?

The creator controls this with their privacy settings. Duet and Stitch are not possible on private accounts or accounts aged 13 to 15, and creators can turn off Allow reuse of content when they post a video.
