Can You See Who Viewed Your TikTok or Instagram?

What TikTok and Instagram actually let you see about your viewers: TikTok profile and post view history, Instagram story viewers, and why profile visitor apps are a bad idea.

On TikTok, yes, partly. If you turn on Profile view history, you can see accounts that viewed your profile in the past 30 days, but only if they also have the setting on. You must be 16 or older and have fewer than 5,000 followers. A separate Post view history setting shows some viewers of posts from the last 7 days. On Instagram, only for stories. You can see who viewed your story for up to 48 hours after posting. Instagram does not offer a list of who visited your profile or watched your posts and reels. You only get counts.

How to see who viewed your TikTok profile

TikTok's Profile view history setting shows which accounts have looked at your profile. It is turned off by default. TikTok's help centre sets three limits:

  • You must be 16 or older and have fewer than 5,000 followers to get the feature.
  • It only covers the past 30 days. Older visits do not show up.
  • It works both ways. You only see visits from accounts that also have the setting on. If you visit another profile that has it on, they see your visit too. Turning it off means you won't see your viewers, and others won't see that you viewed theirs.
  1. Open your profile. In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom.
  2. Go to settings. Tap the Menu button at the top, then Settings and privacy.
  3. Find profile views. Tap Privacy, then Profile views.
  4. Switch it on. Turn on Profile view history. Turn it off the same way.

There are two shortcuts to the same setting. You can tap the Profile views button at the top of your profile, or open Inbox, then Activities, and tap a profile view notification or Profile views. Either way, tap the Settings button at the top to change it.

Can you see who viewed your TikTok videos?

Partly. TikTok's Post view history is a separate setting from profile views. It has the same 16+ and under-5,000-followers limit. According to TikTok, it shows views from:

  • People who follow you, have post view history turned on and viewed your posts.
  • People who do not follow you but liked or commented on your posts, whether or not they have the setting on.
  • Views of posts you shared within the last 7 days.

To turn it on or off, go to Profile, the Menu button, Settings and privacy, Privacy, then Post views. TikTok notes that even with the setting off, your own likes and comments on other people's posts still show up as views to them. It also says story view history is separate and is not affected by this setting.

What about reposts? TikTok's help pages do not describe a way to see who viewed a repost. Our guide on why you can't repost on TikTok covers how reposts work and who can see them.

Can you see who viewed your Instagram story?

Yes. This is the one place Instagram shows you names. Open your story and swipe up on the screen. You will see the number of views and the usernames of people who viewed each photo or video. If you also shared the story to Facebook, scroll down to see who saw it there. Only you can see this list.

Stories disappear after 24 hours, but Instagram says you can still check viewers up to 48 hours after posting. Go to your profile, tap Menu, tap Archive, open the story and swipe up.

  • The view number can be higher than the list of names. It includes replays, so one person watching twice counts twice.
  • Some previews are not listed. Instagram says the viewer list and view number do not include Instagram Plus subscribers who previewed your story.
  • It works both ways. Instagram says that when you see someone else's story, they will be able to tell that you have seen it.

Can you see who viewed your Instagram profile?

No. We could not find any Instagram setting or help article that lets you see who visited your profile. Instagram's help centre only describes viewer lists for stories. Because there is no visitor list, the people whose profiles you look at have no list to find you on either.

What you can see is how many people did things after finding your content. With a public account, post insights show Views (how many times your content was displayed), Interactions (likes, comments, saves and shares) and Profile activity (actions people took on your profile after engaging with the post). These are numbers, not names. Instagram keeps post insights for up to two years.

Can you see who viewed your Instagram reels or posts?

No. You can see who liked or commented, but not who simply watched or scrolled past. To open the numbers, go to your profile, tap the post and tap View insights. You need a public account for this. If your counts look low, our guides on why your Instagram reach is down and what a good engagement rate is explain what to check.

Do apps that show who viewed your profile work?

Be very careful with them. Neither TikTok nor Instagram mentions any outside app that can show you profile visitors in its help pages. The only official tools are the in-app settings above. Instagram's help centre warns you to be careful before giving third-party apps or websites access to your account, and never to share your login details with an app you don't trust.

What to focus on instead

Knowing exactly who looked is less useful than knowing what made people stay. Your insights show which posts brought profile activity and follows, so make more of those. On TikTok, view history is only available while you have fewer than 5,000 followers, so analytics become the main tool as you grow.

Some creators also use Instagram followers from Folzora to help a new profile look established. That can add social proof, but it does not replace content people want to watch, and both platforms' rules prohibit buying engagement.
