- How to start earning on TikTok
There is no single answer, because TikTok does not publish average earnings or a fixed rate per view. What TikTokers make depends on which income streams they use: Creator Rewards (pay for views on videos over one minute), LIVE Gifts (a 2023 TikTok notice set the creator share at 50% of its net revenue from gifts), Subscription (a share of monthly fan payments), TikTok Shop commission (the seller sets the rate) and brand deals (whatever a brand agrees to pay). TikTok's own pay programs, Creator Rewards and Subscription, need at least 10,000 followers (or, for Subscription, TikTok's LIVE requirements), and many creators combine several of these streams.
This guide is a map of all five. Each section gives the short version and links to a deeper guide, so you can go straight to the one that fits you.
How do TikTokers make money?
| Income stream | How you are paid | What TikTok publishes about pay |
|---|---|---|
| Creator Rewards Program | Per qualified view on original videos over 1 minute | A formula, but no rate per view |
| LIVE Gifts | Viewers send gifts that become Diamonds you can withdraw | 50% of net virtual item revenue (2023 notice, reported by press); no fixed Diamond value |
| Subscription | Fans pay a monthly fee for perks | No share on the newsroom page; 50% to 90% reported by press |
| TikTok Shop affiliate | Commission on sales from your videos or LIVEs | Sellers set the rate; 1% to 80% for invited Shop Ads sellers |
| Brand deals | A fee agreed with the brand | Nothing; brands and creators set their own prices |
How much does TikTok pay per view?
Through the Creator Rewards Program, TikTok pays for qualified views on original videos longer than one minute. To join you need to be 18 or older, have at least 10,000 followers and at least 100,000 video views in the last 30 days. TikTok says pay is worked out from four things: originality, play duration, search value and audience engagement.
TikTok does not publish a rate per 1,000 views. Instead, each video gets its own RPM (revenue per 1,000 views) in the Creator Rewards dashboard. That dashboard figure is the only reliable number for your account. Views from different countries can be worth different amounts, so two videos with the same view count can earn very different sums. Our TikTok Creator Rewards UK guide explains qualified views, RPM and how to join.
How much do TikTokers make on LIVE?
On LIVE, viewers buy coins and send gifts. Gifts turn into Diamonds for the creator, and eligible creators can withdraw them as money. In a notice to creators that took effect on 24 February 2023, reported by the German site onlinemarketing.de, TikTok said it would share 50% of its net revenue from virtual items with them, after app store and payment processor fees and other adjustments come off. TikTok does not publish a fixed cash value per Diamond.
So a creator keeps less than half of what viewers spend. TikTok's Virtual Items Policy says you must be 18 or older (or the age of majority where you live) to receive gifts and withdraw Diamonds, and LIVE Gifts must be available in your country. For coin prices, Diamond estimates and what single gifts such as a Rose or a Lion are worth, read our TikTok gift values guide.
How much do TikTok subscriptions pay?
Subscription lets fans pay you a monthly fee for perks such as badges and subscriber-only content. TikTok's newsroom says you need to be 18 or older, in good standing, with at least 10,000 followers and 100,000 video views in the past calendar month, or meet its LIVE requirements.
TikTok's newsroom page does not state the revenue share. Social Media Today reported in October 2025 a 50% base share for creators outside North America, with a performance bonus of up to 20% more (70% in total). It reported a 70% base and up to 90% for US and Canadian creators. Treat these as reported figures and check the Subscription section of TikTok Studio for the terms that apply to you.
How much can you make from TikTok Shop?
TikTok Shop affiliates earn commission when people buy through their videos or LIVEs. Sellers set the commission rate, and TikTok's ads help centre says they can choose anything from 1% to 80% for invited Shop Ads sellers. Your earnings depend on what you promote, the rate the seller offers and how many people buy.
Follower minimums and checks differ by country, including between the US and the UK. Our guide to TikTok Shop affiliate requirements covers the sign-up rules by region.
How much do TikTokers make from brand deals?
Brand deals have no official rate card. A brand pays what the two sides agree, and things like your niche, engagement rate, audience location and the usage rights a brand asks for all move the price. Treat any "per 1,000 followers" figure as a rough starting point for a conversation, not a rule.

How much do TikTokers make in the UK?
UK creators can use the same main streams. TikTok opened its Creativity Program Beta to eligible UK creators in September 2023 and relaunched it as the Creator Rewards Program in March 2024, with the same 10,000 follower and 100,000 view rules. TikTok Shop and LIVE Gifts also run in the UK.
TikTok does not publish a UK rate per view or UK average earnings. The per-video RPM in your own dashboard is the figure to trust. Earnings can count as taxable income, so keep a record of what you are paid.
How much do TikTokers with 1 million followers make?
There is no reliable figure. Follower count is only one input. A creator with 1 million followers who posts short videos, never goes LIVE and turns down sponsors may earn less than a creator with 50,000 engaged followers who runs a shop and does regular brand work. What drives income is how many people watch, how long they watch, where they live and whether they trust you enough to gift, subscribe or buy.
How to start earning on TikTok
- Check what you can join now. Open TikTok Studio and look at the money section. It shows which programs are open in your country and what you still need. Our guide to how many followers you need to get paid on TikTok lists every threshold.
- Start with the lowest bar. TikTok Shop and brand deals can start before 10,000 followers. Small, relevant deals help you learn what your audience responds to.
- Make videos people finish. Creator Rewards only pays on original videos over one minute, and play duration is one of the factors TikTok names. If your views are stuck, read why your TikTok views are low.
- Go LIVE on a schedule. Regular streams build the returning viewers who send gifts and subscribe.
- Track each stream of income. Note what each program pays you every month. It shows you where to spend your time.
Some creators give a new profile a head start with a TikTok followers package. Be honest with yourself about what that does. TikTok's Community Guidelines ban services that artificially boost engagement, and TikTok says it removes fake likes and followers it detects. Bought followers and views do not replace good content, and they will not earn money. Income comes from real people who watch, gift and buy.
Frequently asked questions
How much does TikTok pay for 1,000 views?
TikTok does not publish a fixed rate. In the Creator Rewards Program, each eligible video shows its own RPM (revenue per 1,000 views) in the dashboard, and it changes with watch time, engagement, originality, search value and where viewers live. Only original videos over one minute earn.
How many followers do you need to make money on TikTok?
Creator Rewards needs 10,000 followers and 100,000 views in the last 30 days. Subscription needs the same, or meeting TikTok's LIVE requirements. TikTok Shop has lower follower minimums that vary by country. Brand deals have no official minimum.
How much do TikTokers get from gifts?
A TikTok notice from 2023, reported by the press, said it shares 50% of its net revenue from virtual items with creators, after app store and payment fees. Gifts become Diamonds, and TikTok does not publish a fixed cash value per Diamond, so creators keep less than half of what viewers spend.
Do TikTokers get paid in the UK?
Yes. Eligible UK creators can join the Creator Rewards Program, receive LIVE Gifts and earn TikTok Shop commission. TikTok does not publish UK pay rates, so the dashboard in TikTok Studio is the only reliable figure.
How much do TikTokers with 1 million followers make?
There is no official or reliable figure. Earnings depend on views, watch time, audience location, LIVE gifting, shop sales and brand deals, not on follower count alone.
Can bought views earn money on TikTok?
No. TikTok's Community Guidelines ban services that artificially boost engagement, and TikTok removes fake engagement it detects. Creator Rewards pays on qualified views, and joining needs an account in good standing, so fake views put that at risk rather than earning money.
