You need at least 1,000 followers to add a website link to your TikTok profile. The only other way in is a Verified Business Account, which can add a link whatever its follower count. Both rules come from TikTok's Help Center. Once you qualify, you add the link in the app from Edit profile, next to Links.

TikTok gives two routes to a clickable profile link. You only need one of them.

TikTok says the link lets creators share external websites, such as a portfolio or their other social channels. Where available, you can also add a Lemon8 account to your profile. When someone taps your link, the page opens in TikTok's in-app browser.

No. With 1,000 followers, a regular account can add a link. A business account only helps if you have fewer followers, and then only once it is verified.

This is where a lot of advice online goes wrong. Many tutorials say that switching to a business account is enough on its own. TikTok's help page does not say that. It names a Verified Business Account, which means going through business verification as well. Older guides and some creators say a simple switch was enough, but TikTok's current help page does not say so, so do not count on it.

How TikTok business verification works

Business verification is for real, registered businesses. TikTok says accounts of all types and sizes can apply, but the feature is only for users aged 18 or over, and only in the markets TikTok lists. The list includes the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, Germany and France. In the app, the steps are:

  1. Open the settings. From your profile, tap the menu icon in the top-right, then Settings and privacy, Account and Business verification.
  2. Start the application. Agree to the terms, tap Get started, then choose the country or region where your business operates.
  3. Add your documents. Upload a business verification document and enter your business name and business license ID exactly as they appear on it. Some countries ask for extra documents.
  4. Confirm your identity. Choose SMS or a voice call to verify, then tap Submit.

TikTok says approval typically takes 1 to 5 business days, and you get an in-app notification and an email when it is done. You need a valid business licence for the region where the business operates, so this route is not a shortcut for personal creators.

Once you have 1,000 followers or a Verified Business Account, these are TikTok's steps:

  1. Go to your profile. In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Edit your profile. Tap Edit profile.
  3. Add the link. Next to Links, tap Add.
  4. Finish. Follow the on-screen steps to link your website, then check your profile to see it.

If Links or the website option is missing from Edit profile, check these in order:

  • You are under 1,000 followers. Check your exact count. Followers can also drop, for example after TikTok removes fake accounts, which can take you back under the line. See why you might be losing followers.
  • Your business account is not verified. Switching account type is not the same as passing business verification.
  • Your app is out of date. Update TikTok and restart it, then look again.
  • Your account may have restrictions. Breaking TikTok's rules can limit what your account can do. If your views have also dropped, read our guide to the TikTok shadowban.

If you meet the rules and the option is still missing, contact TikTok through the support options in Settings and privacy, so they can look at your account.

A few things on TikTok's side can make a link behave oddly, even when it is added correctly:

  • A web address typed into your bio text is not a link. Only a link added through Links in Edit profile can be tapped.
  • Links to other social apps are limited. TikTok says it no longer supports links that open or log you into other social media apps. You can still link to those platforms' websites.
  • Long chains of links get cut short. To protect people from scams, phishing and malware, TikTok limits how people can browse chains of external links in its in-app browser. You may see a message asking you to open the page in your phone's own browser instead.

Until you qualify, there is no official way to put a clickable website link on a regular profile. These options still help people find you:

  • Write your site name in your bio text. It will not be clickable, but a short, easy-to-type address still works.
  • Pin a video that explains where to find you. Pinned videos sit at the top of your profile grid, so new visitors are likely to see them first.
  • Answer questions in comments and video replies. If people ask where to buy or read more, tell them how to find you.
  • Use the same username everywhere. People who search for you on other platforms will find you more easily.

Mostly, the job is reaching 1,000 followers. Our guide to getting your first 1,000 followers on TikTok has a step-by-step plan. Strong openings and regular posting help, and if your videos stall, see why your TikTok views are low.

Some creators give a new profile a head start with a package such as 1,000 TikTok followers. Be honest with yourself about what this does. TikTok's Community Guidelines prohibit services that artificially boost engagement, and TikTok says it removes fake followers and other inflated signals. Bought followers do not click links, buy products or watch your videos. Clicks on your link come from real viewers who like your content.

Frequently asked questions

How many followers do you need to put a link in your TikTok bio?

TikTok's Help Center says you need at least 1,000 followers to add a website link to your profile. A Verified Business Account can add a link without reaching that number.

Can you put a link in your TikTok bio without 1,000 followers?

Only with a Verified Business Account, which means passing TikTok's business verification with a registered business, a valid business document and being aged 18 or over. A regular account has no official way to add a clickable link below 1,000 followers.

Does switching to a business account let you add a link on TikTok?

Not by switching alone. TikTok's help page says the account must be a Verified Business Account. Some creators say the link appeared after a simple switch, but TikTok does not confirm this.

Why is my TikTok bio link not clickable?

A web address typed into your bio text is not clickable. Only links added in Edit profile next to Links work. TikTok also no longer supports links that open other social media apps, and for safety it may ask you to open some pages in your phone's own browser.

Why can't I see the website option on TikTok with 1,000 followers?

Update the app and restart it, check that your follower count has not slipped back under 1,000, and check your account for restrictions. If everything looks fine, contact TikTok through the support options in Settings and privacy.
