The best time to post on Instagram is shortly before your own followers are most active. You can see when that is in Instagram Insights under your follower stats. If you have no data yet, large 2026 studies point to weekday afternoons, Monday to Thursday, as a reasonable starting point. For a UK audience, Sprout Social's 2026 data points a little later, to 5pm to 9pm UK time. Timing gives a small boost at most, though. Good content, posted consistently, matters far more.
Does posting time still matter on Instagram in 2026?
A little. Instagram's own explanation of ranking lists when a post was shared as one of the signals used for Feed. It also looks at how quickly people like, comment, share and save a post. So posting when your audience is around can help early engagement build faster.
But Instagram's head, Adam Mosseri, has said timing doesn't matter much. His advice is to post just before your followers are most active, so the post is fresh when most of them open the app. Treat timing as a small tweak, not a growth strategy. If your posts suddenly reach fewer people, timing is rarely the cause. Our guide on why your Instagram reach is down covers the more likely reasons.
How to find your best time in Instagram Insights
Instagram shows when your followers are most active, but only on a professional account (Creator or Business). Instagram's Help Centre says follower trends, including the times they're most active, appear once you have at least 100 followers. Switching to a professional account is free and can be done in settings.
- Open Insights. Go to your profile and tap the professional dashboard or Insights button near the top.
- Open your follower stats. Tap Total followers (the exact label can vary slightly between app versions).
- Find Most active times. Scroll down to the Most active times chart. Switch between the Hours and Days views.
- Note your peaks. Write down the two or three days with the most activity, and the hours where the bars are highest.
- Post a little earlier. Schedule posts 30 to 60 minutes before those peaks, so the post is live when people arrive.
Best times to post on Instagram in 2026: what the studies say
If you're new or below 100 followers, general patterns can help. Two large 2026 studies looked at when Instagram posts got the most engagement. They agree on some things and disagree on others.
| Day | Sprout Social (March 2026) | Hootsuite (July 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | 2pm to 4pm | 3pm to 9pm |
| Tuesday | 1pm to 7pm | 5am to 8am, 3pm to 7pm |
| Wednesday | 12pm to 9pm, plus 11pm | Around 5pm |
| Thursday | 12pm to 2pm | 4pm to 5pm |
| Friday | No clear peak (avoid 3am to 7am) | Around 4pm |
| Saturday | No clear peak, lowest engagement | 11am, around 5pm |
| Sunday | No clear peak, one of the weakest days | 12pm to 3pm |
The common thread is weekday afternoons and early evenings, Monday to Thursday. They disagree on weekends: Sprout Social found them the weakest days, while Hootsuite still lists windows for Saturday and Sunday. That suggests weekend results depend heavily on the account and its audience.
Remember that these are averages across many brands and industries. A gaming creator, a local bakery and a B2B company will not share the same peak hours. Your own Insights beat any study.
Best time to post on Instagram in the UK
The global studies above are in each audience's local time, so they already apply to UK followers. Sprout Social also published separate UK data in March 2026. It found the best times for Instagram in the UK were Monday to Thursday, 5pm to 9pm. That is later in the day than its global results. Oddly, Sprout names Sunday as the single best day in the UK, even though it has only one short window, and Saturday as the worst.
| Day | Best window |
|---|---|
| Monday | 5pm to 11pm |
| Tuesday | 5pm to 11pm |
| Wednesday | 5pm to 10pm |
| Thursday | 5pm to 10pm |
| Friday | 5pm to 6pm |
| Saturday | 3pm to 4pm, 5pm to 7pm (weakest day) |
| Sunday | 6pm to 7pm (best day overall) |
Sprout lists these times in GMT and says to use BST in summer. In practice, that just means UK clock time all year. UK clocks go forward on the last Sunday in March and back on the last Sunday in October. If you schedule posts from another country, check that your scheduler follows the change.
Best time to post on Instagram by time zone
Post for where your audience lives, not where you live. Check Top locations in the same follower stats. If most followers are in the UK but you live in New York, a 6pm London post means publishing at 1pm your time.
- One main region: post for that region's afternoon or early evening.
- Two regions far apart: alternate times, or pick the window where both are awake. Hootsuite gives similar advice: map your followers by region, then look for windows that overlap.
- Not sure which zone the chart uses: compare its peaks with your follower locations. If the peaks look shifted, adjust for the gap.
Why consistency matters more than the perfect hour
A regular schedule does more for most accounts than chasing an exact minute. It helps you in three practical ways:
- Your followers learn when to expect you. Regular posts keep you in their feed and on their mind.
- Your tests become fair. If you post at random times, you can't tell whether timing or content made the difference.
- You can keep it up. A plan you can stick to, such as three posts a week, beats bursts of daily posts followed by weeks of silence.
How to test your posting time
Insights tells you when people are online. A simple test tells you when they actually engage. Run it over two to four weeks.
- Pick two or three time slots. Use your Insights peaks, or the study windows above if you have no data yet.
- Keep content similar. Rotate the slots across posts of the same type, such as Reels only or carousels only. Format affects reach too, as our guide to Instagram Reels vs posts explains.
- Measure the same way each time. After 48 hours, note likes, comments, saves, shares and reach for each post.
- Compare engagement rate, not raw likes. Engagement rate adjusts for audience size and reach, so slots are compared fairly.
- Keep the winner, then re-check. Audiences change. Look at your data again every few months, or after a big jump in followers.
Not sure what counts as a strong result? Our guide on what a good engagement rate on Instagram is gives realistic ranges by account size. Posting on TikTok as well? Peak times there differ, so see our guide to the best time to post on TikTok.
Where Folzora fits in
Some creators give a new post a head start with a small batch of likes, so it doesn't sit at zero during its first hour. Folzora's Instagram likes start delivering within minutes and need no password. If your audience is in one country, we also offer likes from accounts based there, such as UK likes or USA likes. To be clear, bought likes don't replace good content or the right timing, and Instagram's rules don't allow buying engagement. They work best on posts that are already worth engaging with. Frequently asked questions
What is the best time to post on Instagram?
The best time is shortly before your own followers are most active, which you can see in Instagram Insights under Total followers. Without data, large 2026 studies suggest weekday afternoons and early evenings, Monday to Thursday, as a starting point.
What is the best day to post on Instagram?
Sprout Social's 2026 study found Monday to Thursday strongest, and Hootsuite points to Monday, Tuesday and Thursday for reach. They disagree on weekends, so check your own Insights to see whether your followers are active on Saturday and Sunday.
How do I see when my Instagram followers are most active?
Switch to a free professional account, open Insights from your profile, tap Total followers and scroll to Most active times. Instagram says these follower trends appear once you have at least 100 followers.
Does the time you post on Instagram really matter?
A little. Instagram uses when a post was shared and how quickly people engage with it as ranking signals. But Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, has said timing doesn't matter much. Content quality and consistency matter more.
What is the best time to post on Instagram in the UK?
Sprout Social's March 2026 UK data found Monday to Thursday, 5pm to 9pm UK time, worked best. It named Sunday (6pm to 7pm) the best single day and Saturday the worst. Use it as a starting point, then check your own Insights.
Should I post on Instagram at the same time every day?
A regular schedule helps your followers know when to expect you and makes it easier to test what works. You don't need the exact same minute every day, but posting in the same few windows is a good habit.
