There is no single follower number for Facebook monetization. It depends on the tool. Facebook Stars needs 500 followers for at least 30 days in a row. Subscriptions needs 10,000 followers (or 250 return viewers) plus recent engagement or watch time. Facebook Content Monetization, the main program that pays for Reels, videos, photos and text posts, is invite-only and Meta does not publish a follower minimum for it. For all of them you need a Page or a profile in professional mode, an eligible country, and content that follows Meta's monetization policies.

Facebook monetization requirements in 2026

Meta lists different requirements for each way of earning. This table shows the numbers Meta publishes on its own creator pages.

ToolFollowersOther requirements
Content MonetizationNo public numberInvite-only. You can register interest in the Professional Dashboard
Stars500 for at least 30 consecutive daysLive in a country where Stars is available and accept the Stars terms
Subscriptions10,000, or 250+ return viewers50,000 post engagements or 180,000 watch minutes in the last 60 days

Every tool also needs you to pass and keep passing Meta's Partner Monetization Policies. Those say you need an authentic, established presence on Facebook, which for all monetization features means at least 30 days.

How does Facebook Content Monetization work?

Meta launched Facebook Content Monetization as a beta in October 2024. It brings three older programs, in-stream ads, ads on Reels and the Performance bonus, together into one. Meta said that creators who move across cannot join or rejoin the old programs.

With Content Monetization you can earn from Reels, longer videos, Stories, and photo and text posts. Pay is based on how your content performs. Meta's March 2026 announcement still describes it as invite-only, and it does not list a follower threshold. So any number you see quoted for it, such as 1,000 or 10,000 followers, does not come from Meta.

  1. Open your Professional Dashboard. Do this in the Facebook mobile app, on your Page or professional-mode profile.
  2. Go to Monetization. Tap the Monetization tab and look for Content Monetization.
  3. Fill in the interest form. Meta reviews interest and sends invitations. Filling in the form does not guarantee an invite.

How many followers do you need for Facebook Stars?

Meta's Stars page says you need 500 followers for at least 30 consecutive days. Fans can send Stars on live videos, Reels, on-demand videos, Stories, photos and text posts. Meta says you earn 1 cent for every Star a fan sends. You may still see 1,000 followers over 60 days quoted in older articles. Meta lowered the bar to 500 followers over 30 days in June 2023, so that figure is out of date.

How many followers do you need for Facebook Subscriptions?

Subscriptions let fans pay you monthly. Meta's Subscriptions page asks for 10,000 followers or 250 or more return viewers, plus either 50,000 post engagements or 180,000 watch minutes in the last 60 days. If your Page does not already use a Facebook monetization tool, it must first pass a Page-level review against the Partner Monetization Policies.

Subscriptions are open in a list of countries that includes the UK, US, Canada, Australia, Germany, France and many other European countries. Outside those countries, Meta says Subscriptions are invite-only.

Can you monetize a personal Facebook profile?

Not as an ordinary profile. Meta's policies say profiles outside professional mode cannot use monetization features. You can either create a Facebook Page or turn on professional mode for your profile. Professional mode does not create a second account. It adds creator tools to the profile you already have, and it sets your follow setting to public.

  1. Open your profile. Click your profile photo in the top-right corner, then click your name.
  2. Open Options. Click Options below your cover photo.
  3. Turn on pro mode. Click Turn on pro mode, then Turn on to confirm.

If you later turn pro mode off, Meta says you still get pending payouts, but future payouts and bonuses are paused.

How to check if your Facebook page is eligible for monetization

Open your Professional Dashboard and go to the Monetization section. It shows which tools you can use and, if you are not eligible yet, what is missing. Meta asks for a few things beyond follower count:

  • An eligible country. Each tool has its own country list, so one tool can be open to you while another is not.
  • Content that follows the rules. That means Meta's Community Standards, the Partner Monetization Policies and the Content Monetization Policies.
  • Original content. Reposting other people's videos without adding anything of your own can cost you eligibility.
  • An authentic audience. Meta says you can only monetize content watched by your natural, authentic audience.

How to reach Facebook's follower thresholds

  1. Post Reels regularly. Meta said 60% of its total creator payouts on Facebook in 2025 went to Reels.
  2. Make original content. Film your own footage or add real commentary. Meta's monetization policies favour original work over reposts.
  3. Go live and reply to comments. Stars and Subscriptions depend on fans who come back. Talking to them in comments and on live videos builds that habit.
  4. Cross-promote from other platforms. If you already have followers on Instagram or TikTok, point them to your Facebook Page. Compare the platforms in our guide to Instagram vs TikTok for growth.

Some Page owners use a Facebook followers package to make a new Page look less empty while they build. Be honest with yourself about what that does. It can help first impressions, but Meta's rules prohibit buying engagement, and it will not bring the watch minutes or engagement that Subscriptions and Content Monetization look at. Good content is still what gets you paid.

Frequently asked questions

How many followers do you need to get paid on Facebook?

It depends on the tool. Facebook Stars needs 500 followers for 30 consecutive days, and Subscriptions needs 10,000 followers or 250 return viewers plus recent engagement or watch time. Content Monetization is invite-only and Meta does not publish a follower number for it.

Can you monetize Facebook with 1,000 followers?

Yes, if you meet the other rules. 1,000 followers is above the 500 that Facebook Stars needs, so you could earn from Stars once you have held 500 followers for 30 days in an eligible country. Subscriptions needs more, and Content Monetization is by invitation.

Is Facebook Content Monetization invite-only?

Yes. Meta still described it as invite-only in March 2026. You can register interest in the Facebook mobile app from the Monetization tab of your Professional Dashboard.

How much does Facebook pay per Star?

Meta says you earn 1 cent from Meta for every Star a fan sends you.

Can you make money on a personal Facebook profile?

Only with professional mode turned on. Meta says profiles outside professional mode cannot use monetization features. Professional mode adds creator tools to your existing profile without creating a new account.

Why is my Facebook page not eligible for monetization?

Common reasons are not meeting the follower or watch-time threshold, living in a country where the tool is not offered, having a presence of less than 30 days, posting content that is not original, or breaking Meta's Community Standards or monetization policies. Your Professional Dashboard shows what is missing.
